What is a CANS vs. a Nurse Injector?

When considering whether or not you want to utilize the expertise of a Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS), it may help to understand why and what makes a CANS different than other injectors.

  1. Are they licensed as a Registered Nurse or greater in the state of Texas? If they aren’t, you should run!
  2. How extensive is their training? Where have they received training and how long have they been doing aesthetic injections? Many new injectors have had a simple weekend course. As a CANS, I am required to maintain more CEUs/year that what is required by the Texas State Board of Nursing. My Aesthetic CEUs usually run 20-24/year. Texas Board of Nursing requires 10 CEUs/year.
  3. Do they fully understand the anatomy of the face AND how to properly treat and/or correct possible complications? A great portion of my CANS is complication and anatomy review. Complications can, and do happen to even the most highly skilled and experienced surgeon, the important difference is do they have the knowledge and expertise to properly manage on if/when it should occur.

What Is a Neuromodulator?

If you’re not familiar with nueromodulators, also known as Botox, Byspot, or Xeomin, don’t worry, Anne Bechtold and YouthfulFX in Frisco are here to inform, educate, and empower you to understand them.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, are drugs medically known as neuromodulators. Simply, a neuromodulator is a substance that block acetylcholine used in  muscle movement transmission. When you visit a Nurse Injector for aesthetic injections, they use nueromodulators to create subtle or significant changes to facial components in order to create and overall aesthetic look many want to achieve. They reduce muscle movement, therby reducing the significance of wrinkles (or eliminate them altogether) by temporarily paralyzing certain muscles in the face. It is a common mis-conception neuromodulators will “freeze” the face and make natural expression impossible or even strange. Not to worry, for this is not the case! However, synergistic/antagonistic relationships between the facial muscles is an absolute necessity for the appropriate desired outcome!

If you’ve never had a Botox or other nueromodulator injection before, we know this it can be a little overwhelming. Anne will inform, educate, and empower you to make your own decisions as to what you know is best for you! She or the staff will never corner you into making decisions you’re not completely comfortable with. Many people have received Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin injections from Anne in Frisco and are thrilled with their results!
